The Reverend Jac Essing

Rachael Essing, though her friends call her Jac, has lived in Western Massachusetts for about five years. She moved from her home-state of Iowa in 2015, originally intending to stay for only one year as a Lawrence House intern. Discerning a path forward, she stayed at Lawrence House to serve two full terms (2015-2016, 2016-2017) working as campus ministry intern with the Five Colleges and as Program Coordinator with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in December 2019, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, concentrating in Non-Profit Orgs and Religion.
Jac is currently a candidate in the ordination process to the diaconate. Committed to building and sustaining healthy, diverse communities, she aims to connect various spheres by bringing people, ideas, concerns, and joys into conversation and relation with one another. It is about seeing each other for beloved children of God, witnessing our needs, and responding accordingly centered on compassion. She works as Assistant Director with Lawrence House Service Corps in South Hadley and serves as the AmeriCorps Advisor for the House of Colors LGBTQ at Enlace de Familias in Holyoke. Jac enjoys being active (favorites include: hiking, walking, dancing, running), reading non-fiction work, baking bread, and enjoying at least a handful of belly laughs per day.
